Blog Post #6

I had difficulty finding class websites for any of the teachers in my county, all of the “teacher websites” that I clicked on just linked to blackboard which I no longer have access to, or were inactive links. I asked one of my classmates if she had any trouble and she told me her high school, Walled Lake Northern, had websites, so I found a teacher from her school for this blog post. I looked at Mrs. Woodard’s class website for high-school students in Financial Literacy, Marketing, and Web Design classes. She has upcoming assignments on her website, and minor syllabuses for each of her classes. Surprisingly she posted her student’s birthdays for this month, this is information that could be dangerous because it is public, but also is a fun way to make your students feel celebrated. https://sites.google.com/a/teachers.wlcsd.org/woodards-class-site/ Professional teaching responsibilities can be greatly simplified by collaborating with other teachers. I can definitely...

I created this Prezi based on my notes for an upcoming exam in my Stress and Resilience class. The way that Prezi allows you to create interactive presentations is a great tool for educating students with something more exciting than a regular powerpoint. I would definitely consider using Prezi again because once I got the hang of using it, I hated it a lot less. https://prezi.com/p/ccgfbczdk06w/

Web 2.0 technologies are definitely useful in a classroom; these could allow students to use each other as resources. I remember being in middle school and having classmates coming to class all the time saying that they didn’t do the assignment because they couldn’t figure out how to do it. By having class groups for students to interact with online, it eliminates some of the excuses because the student could easily just post their question and move on. Web 2.0 technologies are great ways for students to learn extra material and also extra points of view outside of the classroom. Social networking was critical for all of the clubs I was in during high school. It was impossible to be part of multiple clubs and honors societies without having Facebook tell you when all the meetings were. These Web 2.0 networks are a great way to keep students involved on campus, which is linked to better classroom outcomes. There was an example of a Web 2.0 app mentioned in the article that I was me...

I personally love Twitter and am on it more than any other social media, so this assignment has been pretty enjoyable for me because it gives me even more posts to scroll through. I love interacting with my classmates because it is people I really know. I follow some pages that post some really funny teacher memes and despite not being a teacher I have worked very closely with some and helped in classrooms that make them relatable. It could be helpful in the future as a teacher because I see so many links to articles that have tips for teachers, such as “20 ways to keep your students engaged” or “9 tips for keeping cellphones out of your students’ hands”. Usually it is just little teacher life hacks that would definitely come in handy. The digital divide is an increasingly huge problem for students because it is becoming almost impossible to complete assignments without technology or Internet access. A child may be embarrassed by their low economic status and avoid telling a teach...

8 th Grade Science Class  CRAAP Websites for Learning about Space Technology  https://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/5-8/features/nasa-knows/what-is-the-iss-58.html This website is definitely a trustworthy site, and meets all of the needs of CRAAP. This site was edited only a few days ago on February 7 th 2018, as listed at the bottom. The links within the article are listed to provide more information on the International Space Station are all working and connect to other valid websites. The page is broken up into logical subheadings about the space station, and is also specifically for grades 5-8. The information on this website would be great for a middle school science class learning about outer space. The website is a ‘.gov’ so it is a restricted domain, which makes it understandable that the information appears to be so trustworthy. Flint Wild, the Senior Education Editor for NASA, made the latest edit to the page. All of the information seems credible an...

Of the ELA technology standards that we learned about I would feel the most appropriate to teach with W/WHST.8 “Use Multiple Sources” and most of the Multimedia Standards for literature, history/ social studies, and science/technical subjects. Throughout our lives we have been taught to always check our sources on multiple websites to corroborate the information. It is important for students to know the differences between primary and secondary sources and how to use them in our research. Multimedia is also a very comfortable standard because we use all sorts of media every day. Using videos and pictures can be a great way to explain certain topics and help students learn. One of the standards that I might not be as comfortable with is the SL.2 “Integrate and Evaluate” Standard, especially the 11-12 category for noting any discrepancies in the data. This one scares me a little bit because sometimes it is easy to trust an article citing a fancy research study without really evaluat...
